I need suggestions!
So I basically have only this second trimester to get ready for this baby. Since I am considered high risk since I am pregnant with twins, the doctors told me I will need to go down to the base on the southern end of Japan at 28 weeks. Reason being is they have a NICU just in case any complications arise. Obviously once I am there it will be much harder to plan and prepare for these babies...so I have 15 weeks at most to buy everything I need. We have been buying diapers like crazy. We have one crib so far and a changing table. We have a wipe warmer and a diaper genie, some really cute onsies. One play mat and that's about it. I really need help knowing what to buy and what really is just a waste of money. So PLEASE tell me what you have found to be essentials! I would really, really appreciate it.

I would get a boppy if you are planning on breatfeeding.. Also, an electric pump is good as well. If the base has WIC, I would get on that right away too. They are a lot of help. Since you never really know when you are going to go into labor, I would get the car seats asap. They have unisex ones. I know rocking chair's are expensive, but I would really recommend one. I never had one, but trust me, it would have saved me from a lot of back pain if I had one. One of those soothing lullaby things that you can strap onto the crib are good as well. They even have ones that project a picture on the ceiling above the crib. Baby swings are a life saver especially if you have house work to do lol. One thing that James loved was this swaddling blanket. Here is the link so you can take a look: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Kiddopotamus-SwaddleMe-Set-of-2-Microfleece-Swaddling-Blankets-Ivory-and-Pink/10965465
ReplyDeleteI don't know what stores they have over there, but I am sure that they have some somewhere. James would not go to sleep unless he was swaddled. I would also get breast pads. Mittens are great for newborns cause they tend to scratch their face a lot and some onesies have little flaps on them for that as well. I would get lots and lots of baby washcloths and the Johnson's bed time bath cause it helps relax them. Also, something very important is some rubbing alcohol and some baby Qtips. The rubbing alcohol is so that you can keep the umbilical cord clean and it also dries it out so that it falls off faster. It has to be 70% rubbing alcohol. Dreft laundry detergent is good too. There is even a oxi clean baby stain remover. I hope this helps! I will let you know if anything else comes to mind.

Things I consider essentials:
ReplyDeleteDiapers (you already knew that, though)
Wipes
Cotton footie pajamas with ZIPPERS. (It will make your life so much easier. Forget the adorable outfits until they're older. Just let them be comfortable)
Bumbos (but you wont need this until they're a couple months old)
A swing. You could probably just have one since I'm not sure about your space.
A GOOD pump.
Bottles
Bottle Brush
Pacifiers
Baby shampoo/body wash
Bathtub that cradles the baby well, otherwise they will be sliding all around.
Plenty of washcloths
Blankets and swaddlers
A front to back double stroller (side by side is a nightmare when shopping)
A baby sling such as a moby wrap
Baby meds like tylenol, Mylocon (gas relief), Hylands Teething Tablets, Baby oragel
A few toys (ones that are easy to hold and some to hand from the carseat)
A baby play mat (both my girls love these and it helps them build their hand/eye coordination)
That's all I could think of. I know it is a LOT. But really, all you need to survive is clothes, blankets, diapers, wipes and a way to feed and clean them and you'll be fine. All the other stuff can be purchased later if you find you need it. YOU CAN DO IT! <3
I echo Kellie. Good thing I read hers before I commented or I'd be repeating everything! I'd throw on there a jumper. Both my kids and all the kids growing up on Lars side have LOVED them once they get to be around 4 months old since being in the Bumbo and bouncer gets boring and let's them use their legs to practice standing on. But don't get an expsensive one. Those have TONS of toys to play with and often I see little ones get overwhelmed by too many things to play with. Keep it simple. Their brains have LOTS to learn how to process.
ReplyDeleteThank you guys so much! This is great! I really appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteI would look into getting a swing. It was our life saver!! There were days when the only thing that would calm Addy down and get her to sleep was the swing. Boppys are great to they save your arms and back while feeding. One of our favorite things was the baby nightgowns they made diaper changing easy at night because you dont have to worry about buttons or zippers.
ReplyDeleteI hope this helps Bryce and I are so excited for you guys!
Hi there, I am a friend of your cousin Jennifer and my twins are now 4 months old.
ReplyDeleteTry not to buy 2 of everything. We have 2 bassinets, 2 swings, etc.... and only ever use one at a time. We do use the boppys as a sleeping place for them on the couch and it is my lifesaver. One bassinet ended up being a blanket holder, selling that soon. One of mine doesn't like the swing at all so I am selling that too. We found a large cradle that has held them both at night next to my bed. Soon we will be buying a crib for them. I didn't want to go crib shopping while I was pregnant and I knew we wouldn't use it until they were 3 or 4 months old. I also knew I would feel more like decorating and such after they were born.
I couldn't keep up with them breast feeding, so I pumped and supplemented with formula. Having plenty of bottles is a good thing. That way others could help me out feeding them. Sleep is a hard thing to come by, but God must have made us women able to function fine during these first few months.
Sounds like you are smart and are stocking up on diapers. Try not to get TOO many newborn, they grow fast and I bought alot of size 1 to stock up.
Early on swaddle them good! Mine slept 10 times better when they were wrapped TIGHT. I often had my husband do it, he became a pro. For me it is rare that they are both content at the same time, let yourself enjoy the time, don't get stressed about housework or laundry. It is very hard to "finish" anything you start, hopefully you have a great husband who will pitch in. Please ask me anything you want to know. christaintexas@gmail.com
